The New Food Standard BRC Issue #7

Overview:

The BRC Food Safety Standard has a new revision, but rather than just tell you what the changes are, this webinar will focus on how to address these changes with specific ideas and examples.

BRC consulted broadly with the users of the Standard but also reviewed the issues within the food industry to be sure the program and audits were addressing real needs. The consultation identified a number of opportunities for strengthening and clarification within the Standard itself as well as new topics. These new topics include:

  • Supplier Management brought to a higher profile
  • Labeling and pack control
  • Authenticity and food fraud
  • Ambient high care
  • Customer focus & communication has been brought back.
  • An ‘AA’ grade has been added, and the ‘D’ grade brought back.

Objectives of this webinar:

The Webinar is intended to provide an introduction to the new Issue of the Standard but more so, explain how to meet the requirements, with specific examples. We will cover both an overview of the objectives and priorities that BRC had in updating the standard, but also looking in detail at the requirements of the Standard and providing explanation of the updated concepts and auditor expectations.

At the end of this Webinar you will understand the key differences between Issue 6 and Issue 7 of the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety. The organization of the standard has improved and there are additional requirements as well as some existing sections, such as Supplier Management, emphasized.

Also, there will be a brief review of the core programs within BRC that will most greatly benefit your plant, as well as ideas to keep the program as simple as possible.

Presenter—Irwin Pronk:

Mr. Pronk has more than 34 years of experience in the food and packaging industries and is very experienced in BRC, having led 37 facilities to certification in GFSI standards.

Prior to starting his consultancy in 1995, he worked at Maple Leaf (R&D) and Pillsbury/Green Giant (QA). For the past 20 years, he has been training and auditing in the areas of Food Safety, Continuous Improvement, and Management Systems Development including the GFSI standards: BRC, FSSC22000 & SQF. His experience includes on-farm, feed mills, food processors, municipal water departments and packaging suppliers, in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Japan and China.

He has worked with over 300 companies and trained more than 10,000 individuals during his consultancy.
