Workplace Bullying

Bullying (also called “mobbing” or “psychological harassment”) has been described as the silent epidemic in the workplace. Research shows that workplace bullying is increasing, in part due to technology platforms, including social media, which make it easier to spread degrading statements.  Employees may react more adversely to emotional abuse than to overt sexual or race harassment. Various state legislators are pushing for regulation.  In addition, recent case law developments open the door for expanding existing harassment theories to cover workplace bullying in the absence of regulations.
This webinar will explain what types of conduct amount to workplace bullying, recent foreign and American legal developments in protecting employees against workplace bullying and increasing employers’ compliance obligations. The webinar will conclude with suggested preventive strategies which may significantly reduce employers’ potential risk and liability.

Terri Solomon is also a shareholder at Littler Mendelson, the largest management-side workplace law firm in the U.S.  The firm has over 1,000 employment lawyers in 56 offices across the U.S. and Latin America. 
She provides strategic advice, counseling and training to US employers on a wide range of topics including harassment avoidance, FMLA and ADA compliance, workplace violence prevention, conducting investigations, performance management and supervisory skills, and social media.  She also designed the training program, which was approved by the EEOC and a court monitor.
Terri is a frequent lecturer on employment and labor law and is the author of numerous articles on employment-related topics.  She received her BA from University of Massachusetts her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School; and is a member of both the NY and NJ bar associations.
